WHERE TO MEET
We will meet at the south end of the old Smith's Grocery Store parking lot on California Street – Socorro's "Main Street."

at 9:00 a.m.  Tour departure shortly thereafter.
Using your own vehicle, this tour explores some of the visible remaining features at San Marcial, NM -- destroyed by two floods in 1929. The second flood occurred on Sept. 13-14, 1929 ...90 years ago to the day. We'll visit the cemetery, some building remnants, location of the townsite, the train depot, Harvey House and bank, remains of the railroad roundhouse and turntable, the 1881 built railroad trestle across the Rio Grande, a view of the Valverde Battle field (Civil war battle, Feb. 21, 1862) and a couple other historical features.
A FEW DETAILS
Answers to questions you may have
 
> Tour is on dirt roads in the San Marcial area.  Roads are in
    good condition and suitable for most automobiles.
> Any vehicles that need to be parked in Socorro during the tour
   will be parked at the nearby Walmart parking lot for safety.
   (Inform tour guide if you need to park a car).
> Bring your own snacks and refreshments.  Tour will be hot and
   dusty, so bring plenty of liquids.
> Time on the tour is up to you.  No set time at any stop.  Most
    tours tend to end between 1-2 p.m.
> Official end of the tour is our departure from San Marcial so
    you can return as you wish.
>  Many participants like to return to San Antonio for a tasty
    green chili hamburger at the Owl Bar or the Buckhorn.
    You'll be hungry and thirsty about then!!!
